Step 4
Based on the outcome of the Self Regulation Inventory & Work Habits Self Assessments
A.  Provide a summary of your perceived areas of strengths and areas of needed improvement

My musical strengths and weaknesses are very hard to identify, as I have not known much about as to what I was doing until a year ago. Up until transferring, I had very little to no concept of music and improvement. I believe I still need to work on my recognition of the bass clef, since my reading in treble has been improved over the past 5 or so years. I believe I also need to work on my recognition of notes played so that I can put them down on paper instead of just listening and hearing certain "noises". I do have strength in reading certain timed bars as well as the treble clef, as well as my Oboe skills providing some understanding of music.

Coure Benchmark Goals
Step 1
What is it that you hope to know and be able to do at the conclusion of the class?

By the end of this class I would like to have a better understanding of music theory and improve my overall view of music. At the current time I do not have much of an understanding at all, so I believe it will vastly improve throughout this course.
What are three things you would like to achieve in order to count your semester as successful?

1. Be able to analyze music more successfully and have a better understanding of it.

2. Have the ideas learned in this course overall affect my musical abilities.

3. Use the skills learned to improve my enjoyment and pleasure of music in my free time.
How motivated are you to achieve these goals?

Seeing the success and grand understanding of music theory of those around me greatly motivates me to learn and discover the topic. It is almost like a role model pressure that makes me determined to learn more.
How will you increase your motivation if it becomes low during the course of the semester?

Look back into the success of those around me, such as listening to their pieces or just listening to them play. The idea of being able to understand music and music theory on a similar level as them would make me feel very determined. Receiving help and support from others may cause a boost in motivation.
What strategies can you use to achieve your goals?

Do not slack off and try to study as much as possible. I have to make sure that I stay focused in this course and keep my mind straight so that information stays and doesn't just slip out of my mind.
What might interfere with your achievement and how can you prevent this interference?

The potential for me giving up and becoming very frustrated with myself. I'll just have to stay calm and collected to make sure the ground under me doesn't just break and I lose my footing. Talking it out with others and trying to seek help may prevent this even more.
